African Heritage Month Fact
Sadly, millions of Africans were taken from their land and brought to North and South America to work as slaves. In early Canada, black people were bought, sold, and traded like property. In 1628, a six year old African boy was brought to New France and sold a few times. He was given the name Olivier Le Jeune. Olivier was the first recorded enslaved person in Canada.
